I received In Times of Violence by Karina Kantas for free in exchange for a review.
Overall Rating: 1/5; placed on my DNF shelf at the end of chapter two
I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately it was one that I DNF’d. It takes a lot for me to decide to not finish a book. Of the almost 120 books I’ve read this year, this is only the second book that I’ve placed on my DNF shelf on GoodReads. I feel like I gave it a good try to get into it, but ultimately decided it wasn’t for me. I personally felt that the two chapters I read just dragged on and on and I felt like I was forcing myself to read which I never have to do. The chapters were also rather long so I think that added to how slow the book felt to me.
One of my biggest pet peeves in books is “instalove”. This book had one of the most instant “instaloves” that I’ve ever seen and it just really annoyed me. I personally just didn’t see why this “love” was introduced in chapter two instead of later. The main character didn’t even know this man and he certainly didn’t know her before he was wanting her in his bed. It just didn’t work for me at all.
Maybe this book gets better and things pick up later on, but I personally couldn’t get into it enough to continue it at this time. I might pick it back up later on, but at this point in my life, it just wasn’t for me.
