It’s time for our first currently reading post of 2019! For 2019, we’ll be doing these a little more spread out throughout the month, but still happening on Wednesdays!
For the third time, I’m rereading Illuminae! I hope to finally carry on with the rest of the series, but knew I wanted to reread Illuminae again before reading Gemina.
This is such an interesting book as it’s told in IMs, emails, schematics, and so much more. It takes a tiny bit to get used to, but once you do, it’s so amazing. The audiobook is also one of my favorite things ever. I’ve been turning it on while doing things around the house and have been flying through it. I’m currently about two thirds of the way through it and have about 200 pages left so I’m hoping to finish it today!
Love Scene, Take Two
I picked this up during the Boxing Day sale that Book Outlet did. I had seen one of my friends that I mod with in TBR and Beyond talk about this book and recommend it so when I saw it while browsing, I quickly added it to my cart. Love Scene, Take Two is the story of a YA book being turned into a movie and that’s all I really needed to know about it.
I’m only about 50 pages into it so far so no concrete thoughts on it, but I’m enjoying my time reading it so far and I’m looking forward to finishing it.
Only a Breath Apart
Only a Breath Apart is one of the ARCs I read in December, but because it was such a crazy month and it took me a bit to finish it, I decided I was going to reread it this month to really appreciate this story.
What I remember of this story, I really enjoyed so I can’t wait to dive back into it and fully appreciate the story the way I know it deserves to be appreciated.
The last book I’m currently reading is also the last of my lowest rated books I own that I chose for January. This book was a second book in an OwlCrate box in May of last year and it’s been sitting on my shelf ever since I received it.
I honestly don’t know too much about this story and most of the time I really enjoy going into a book blind. I do feel like I sometimes enjoy a story a bit more when I go at it this way. I know it has to do with a witch and she has powerful abilities and she’s in hiding, but that’s about it. Very curious about this one and I’m hoping I enjoy it more than the other two low rated books I’ve already read this month.
This is my third time reading Red Queen. The first time, I just read the first book and moved on. The second I made it through all of the books except for the final book. And now that I finally have War Storm, I’m rereading the series again! I’m buddy reading it with a dear friend of mine, and I’m excited to see what she thinks of the series, since this will be her first time reading them!
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of The Hunger Games and superheroes! It’s like a hybrid between those two genres, and I think it really works well for this series! I’m excited to see how it all ends!
Handmaid’s Tale has been on my TBR for YEARS…honestly I’m not sure why I haven’t read it before now. It was on my TBR for December as well, but I never got around to it, so it remained on my shelf, unread. Until now! I’ve been really intrigued by the TV show as well, so I think once I finish the novel, I’ll have to give it a go and see what I think of the show.
So far, I’m about halfway through the novel, and it’s not really what I expected. It seems so…normal. Which, I guess is the whole point. That this is a situation that could happen at any time in our society. I’m not sure what I think of it just yet, but I’m definitely still really intrigued by the story!
Before The Devil Breaks You
Slowly, but surely I’ve been making my way through this series, and now I’m finally on the last book! This series starts with The Diviners, and it’s about a group of “magically-inclined” people as they fight the supernatural entities that have presented themselves. It’s set in New York City in the 1920’s, and it’s really amazing so far! I’m excited to see how the ending plays out, and how the author connects all the loose threads that she’s woven through the trilogy.
I’m not usually a fan of creepy, or scary, or horror novels at all. It’s just not my thing. But this book is just different. It’s definitely creepy and spooky, and I can’t read it late at night, or I’ll have nightmares. But the story is so intriguing that I just can’t quit!
I love Illuminae, and just like Felicia, this one is a reread for me! I first read Illuminae in January of last year, and I listened to the audiobook (I definitely recommend the audio for this one, it’s absolutely brilliant!), but this time around I’m reading the Ebook, and I’ve found that there was a lot that the audio just…can’t include. This story is told through IM’s, messages, emails, dossiers, and pictures! It’s definitely a unique way to tell a story and I’m excited to have a new experience in reading this book than I did when I first read it. It’s a book that gives you something new every time you read it!
Crazy Cupid Love
I’m really excited for this one! I got this book as a E-ARC, and I’m so intrigued by the storyline so far! I’m not very far into it, so I don’t quite know where the plot is going, but the characters are phenomenal!
Crazy Cupid Love has been marketed as “Percy Jackson for romance fans” – once I read that, I couldn’t pass up reading this book! It follows Eliza – the worlds worst cupid – as she navigates life trying to avoid her fate as a cupid, until she finally has to face her calling, and fill-in for her brother. I can’t wait to see how this crazy story pans out!
