Ravenclaw – Down The TBR Hole

51290779_2068076193282834_2984265030993707008_nThis is my first Down the TBR, ever. I don’t think I’ve ever removed any books from my TBR, I’ve just always assumed I’ll get to them eventually. But when Felicia suggested I do one a month for Bookishly Slytherclaw, I realized just how full my TBR jar was – it was bursting!

I know that most people for this use their Goodreads Want To Read list, but I haven’t had my goodreads for very long, so it’s not at an unmanageable number…yet. So instead, I used my TBR jar that has slowly been collecting book titles for about two years. I emptied it out, cleared away the books I had already read and forgotten to remove and was left with over 130 titles. So, lets get started!

Down the TBR Hole was originally created by Lost in a Story as a way to get your TBR down to a more manageable number. If you see any books I should keep, definitely let me know! Some of these I know very little about, so if it’s really amazing, I’ll put it back in my jar!

How it works:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I’m going to be doing this slightly differently, I’m going to use the slips from my jar, in a random order, and then looking them up on Goodreads to decide if they stay or leave! I’ll be doing ten books a month, so this will let me go through almost the entire jar before the end of the year!

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

I added this book because I was interested in watching the movie, and I’m a big believer of reading the book before watching the film. Honestly, I haven’t had the movie on my watchlist for a while either, so I don’t think this one is going to stay.

Final Decision: Remove!

The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick

I added this one to by TBR after having watched the movie. I was a really big fan of the film, and I was really excited when I found out there was a book too. I just rewatched this film not long ago, and I still love it, but I want to know more details about the characters!

Final decision: Keep!

The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) by Brandon Sanderson

I have so many friends who keep recommending Sanderson to me, and I keep telling them I’ll read his books. It hasn’t happened yet, but I’m holding out hope! The description of this one looks right up my alley, so I think I’ll give this one a shot sooner rather than later!

Final decision: Keep!

Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1) by Ridley Pearson

I remember adding this one a long time ago, and I thought it was just the coolest premise ever. However, this book doesn’t really seem to be in my age or reading bracket anymore. It still looks interesting, but I don’t think it’s for me.

Final decision: Remove!

An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

This one still looks so interesting to me! I started this one a couple years back, but it was due back at the library, and I didn’t have time to finish it. I really liked the few chapters that I read, so I’m going to try this one again.

Final decision: Keep!

No More Heroes by Stephen Thompson

I’ve read the description for this many many times, and every time I read it, I say that it looks really interesting. However, it’s vastly outside of what I normally read, and I’m not sure if I’ll ever actually pick it up. For now, I’m gonna have to say no, but that doesn’t mean it won’t come back on my tbr if the situation calls for a book like this.

Final decision: Remove!

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I read a graphic novel that is linked to this series, and I absolutely loved it. I’ve had this book on my TBR for quite some time now, but I keep coming back to the idea of it. I don’t think this one is going anywhere anytime soon…except maybe to my Goodreads “Read” list!

Final decision: Keep!

I Am Legend by Richard Matheson

I added this when the Twilight, vampire craze was at it’s peak. I never fully subscribed to the idea of vampires, and didn’t really understand the craze. I added this to my TBR because it seemed like an interesting twist on the vampire theme. However, I think I’m going to remove this one.

Final decision: Remove!

Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith

If I had done this a couple months ago, I probably would be removing this from my TBR without a second thought. However, since I just finished The Diviners, I’ve been really in the mood for period books set in the 20th century. This one seems like a really good choice, so I think I’ll be reading this one really soon!

Final decision: Keep!

Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden #1) by Julie Kagawa

I reread the description of this, and yes, it’s another vampire novel, added at the height of vampire popularity. However, I’m still really intrigued by this description, and I think I’ll leave it on my tbr for a little while longer.

Final decision: Keep…for now

Final Thoughts: I’m really surprised with how many of these I’ve outgrown and decided to get rid of right off the bat. I don’t usually let go of things easily. I’m excited to keep moving forward with this though! Here’s to wiping the slate clean!

What do you think? Are there any books you think I should keep on my TBR?

Happy reading!
Stephanie
