This week’s (January 22, 2019) topic is:  Books You Meant to Read in 2018

As there are two of us here at Bookishly Slytherclaw, we’ll be splitting this list up and each of us will choose five!

Felicia’s Five

Lady Midnight

In 2018, I participated in a read along of the entire Shadowhunter Chronicles in preparation for Queen of Air and Darkness. Unfortunately, after reading City of Heavenly Fire, I never continued on any farther in the collection of books so Lady Midnight and the rest of The Dark Artifices are books I still need to read.

Dear Evan Hansen

This is a book that I was so hyped for in 2018 and for some reason just never prioritized it. I’m obsessed with the soundtrack for the musical so I have some high hopes for the novelization of it. I’m really hoping I get to it this year.

Archenemies is another one that I was so ready to have in 2018 and just never got around to reading it. I can’t wait for the final book in the trilogy so I might wait until that’s released so I’m able to read all three books in a row.

I’ve come to realize that I have a problem prioritizing the books I receive in the Unicorn Crates that I get. I’m in love with every single box I’ve gotten from them, but I can’t remember if I’ve read any of the books from their boxes. Furyborn is just one of those books. It came in one of my first Unicorn Crates and I’ve yet to read it. Large books don’t tend to scare me, but for some reason I’m intimidated by this one.

The Queen’s Rising

I bought The Queen’s Rising off a buy, sell, trade group sometime last year and even though I was so hyped for it when I first bought it, I never got around to reading it. I know the sequel comes out very soon so I really hope I make it a priority soon!

Stephanie’s Five

What If It’s Us

I have been wanting to read this book since it came out in 2018! However, I was really stupid and asked for it for Christmas, so I had to wait until the end of the year to even see if I got it. I did get it for Christmas, and I just finished reading it yesterday. While it was definitely worth the wait, I really wish that I had read it earlier because the story was just so beautiful!

All The Light We Cannot See

This book has been on my TBR since August of 2017, but it bumped even further up the list when I found out that the author was an alumni of my university! I finally bought the book in December, but didn’t have time to get to it before the year ended. I’m so excited to read this one, and I can’t wait for it!

Now I Rise

I read the first book, And I Darken, over a year ago. I bought it in a super summer sale, and didn’t think I’d like it, but since it was only a couple bucks, I couldn’t say no. Lo and behold, I adored book one, but I haven’t read book two yet! Here’s hoping I can finally read it this year!

The Upside of Unrequited

I bought Upside of Unrequited several months ago, and I still haven’t read it. Honestly, it’s surprising it’s stayed on my TBR this long, because I am such a HUGE fan of Becky Albertali! It’s staring at me on my bookshelf, begging to be read! I’ll definitely be picking this one up in he next couple months!

It Can’t Happen Here

Any one who knows me knows that I am passionate about a lot of things, but particularly theater, reading, and politics (in that order). And wouldn’t you know, this book has ties to all three. I have been wanting to read this since I heard about the play adaptation in one of my theater classes at my university. Then, my dad conveniently bought this book just a few weeks later – right after the 2016 election. Coincidence? I think not. It’s been on my shelf, in my TBR ever since. I just haven’t worked up the nerve to read it yet. It’s definitely on my list for 2019 though!

  1. I read The Queen’s Rising last year and I wasn’t crazy about it, but a lot of people seem to like it! I hope you really enjoy it. I just got Dear Evan Hansen from Fantastical Reads book box, so I’m looking forward to reading that one. I hope we both like it!

  2. I’ve been making my way through Cassandra Clare’s books this summer. I’ve got Clockwork Princess left and then I’ll be reading Lady Midnight, which I’ve owned for ages. I probably don’t have to wait until I’ve finished the Infernal Devices but I’m trying to read each set/series before going on to the next one.

  3. Great lists! I’d like to read the novelization of Dear Evan Hansen as well. The musical is opening here this Spring, so I think I’m going to wait to see the show live before I read the book though.

I’ve read a few of your five Stephanie and loved them! All the Light is one of my all-time favourite books and this comes from someone who isn’t usually interested in WWII set books. I think Now I Rise was my favourite of the Conqueror’s Saga, although I loved all three of Kiersten White’s books. I hope you enjoy all of these whenever you get to them! 🙂
