Title: Drift Heat
Author: Adrian R. Hale
Publication Date: January 28, 2016
Pages: 410
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Rating: 5/5

Synopsis: I didn’t want to only be known as the pretty, blonde daughter of a famous race car driver. I wanted to make a name for myself and I wasn’t going to let anyone get in my way. So when I saw the opportunity of a lifetime, I jumped. Being the face of the hottest new racing team in the business was a dream come true.

Until he showed up.

Griffin McGregor. Bad boy star driver. On the track, he’s gold. Off the track? He’s everything my daddy ever warned me about. Infuriatingly egotistical, explosive temper, argumentative know-it-all…why does he have to be so freaking hot?

It’ll be a miracle if we can get this team to the championship title without killing each other. Or worse. Because the last thing I’m going to do is wreck my career by jumping in bed with a race car driver.

Drifting is not something I’m new to. Drift videos are constantly being played around my house and we have gone to a formula drift event. Books about drifting is new for me. I have always hunted for books that feature some sort of racing in them and it’s been hard for me to find sometimes.

When I was graciously given an ARC of Broken Drift and then found out it was the second in a series, I knew I wanted to read the first book before the sequel. I’m so glad I did because I now have a new favorite romance book and not just because it includes something I feel like I’m knowledgeable about.

Drift Heat starts out with Shelby midway through a photo shoot. She has been hired as the brand ambassador for Smoke and Mirrors. They’re a drift team that is struggling to obtain sponsors and maintain a good image because of one of their drivers and his actions. As soon as Griffin, one of the drivers, shows up, it’s explosive and I was waiting for the worst to happen, but Shelby held her own and I was so excited that it went the way it did instead of how I assumed it would.

Drift Heat absolutely has one of my new favorite romances and couples in it. I was hooked from the very beginning and never wanted to stop reading. The chemistry and banter between Shelby and Griffin is just amazing and I honestly want another story that follows them.

Synopsis: Wyatt

Holding on to regret is poison and I take mine straight up. Fast cars and even faster women—they’re my drug of choice. Until I barely survive a crash that destroys my career. Now I’m staring my past in the face and she’s even more beautiful than when I walked away.

Isla

I’m wildly clutching at what’s left of my shattered life after a failed marriage when he shows up at my rehab facility. I didn’t think my life could get any worse. Now the one man who has the power to destroy me completely is asking me to heal his broken body.

Sometimes, things need to stay broken.

Broken Drift is set not long after the end of Drift Heat and has an explosive beginning. While I didn’t love it as much as Drift Heat, I still really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance books or books featuring any type of racing.

Broken Drift follows Wyatt recovering after an accident during a drift event and Isla trying to reclaim her life after catching her husband cheating on her. Wyatt and Isla had actually met several years before the start of this book and it follows them through a second chance relationship and all the ups and downs that they go through.

While this is the second in the Drift series by Adrian R. Hale, I do think it could work as a standalone. Characters and relationships from Drift Heat are mentioned and show up later in Broken Drift. I’m glad I read Drift Heat beforehand just because I like to read in order and know things ahead of time.

I didn’t connect to Broken Drift as well as I did Drift Heat and I think that was mainly because of Isla. I wasn’t a fan of how distant she felt.

I definitely feel like Adrian R. Hale did a great job at writing a super emotional story. I felt for these characters throughout the entire story. The curve balls that were thrown at me during the story definitely kept me interested and having to know what would happen next.

Overall, I really enjoyed both of these stories and will definitely be reading more from Adrian R. Hale in the future. The relationships and story lines are addicting and sexy. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a new swoon worthy romance!

Happy reading!
Felicia
