The Reading Rush begins tomorrow and I have finally decided on my TBR for the week! The Reading Rush is originally known as Booktubeathon, but has been rebranded this year to be inclusive of all the different platforms that readers use. This is my first year ever participating in this readathon and I’m very excited about it. This readathon is being held from July 22 to July 28 and has seven reading challenges as well as a bonus challenge.
1/ Read a book with purple on the cover
I had originally planned to read something else, but after watching TBR videos from some of my favorite people, I decided I really wanted to reread Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett. This is one of my favorite Jenn Bennett books and I absolutely can’t wait to reread it and talk to people about it.
2/ Read a book in the same spot the entire time
I have decided to read The Tea Dragon Festival by Katie O’Neill for this prompt. I’m not sure where I will read it at yet, but I know this will be an easy and quick read for the readathon. This book will also fulfill the prompt for Draconic Isle for The Book Junkie Trials.
3/ Read a book you meant to read last year
I could have used so many books for this prompt, but have decided on The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord. I have had this book since early 2018 and have yet to get around to it. I really want to get to it soon because I was able to get an ARC of the sequel and didn’t know it was a sequel at first.
4/ Read an author’s first book
A Touch of Gold by Annie Sullivan is my choice for this prompt. This will be a reread as I read this last year when Annie Sullivan joined us in TBR and Beyond for a live chat. I figure I’ll get through this one fairly quickly since it is a reread. A Touch of Gold will also fulfill the prompt of Ol’ Pirate Road for The Book Junkie Trials since a portion of the book takes place on the sea.
5/ Read a book with a non-human main character
I really struggled with this prompt for awhile. I finally decided on And The Ocean Was Our Sky by Patrick Ness. This will be my first book by Patrick Ness, but as I needed something with a non-human character while also fitting a prompt for Reading Rivalry for July, I thought this could fit into both.
6/ Pick a book that has five or more words in the title
I struggled with this one a little as well. I had originally thought of The Start of Me and You for this one and while that would work, I do have hope to complete all the prompts as well as the bonus. So I can fulfill the bonus challenge, I will be reading Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim. I don’t know much about this book, but the cover is gorgeous and I hope to love it. This one also fulfills the Glimmer destination on The Book Junkie Trials map.
7/ Read and watch a book to movie adaptation
For this prompt, I actually have a few different options, but I think I’ve finally decided on To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. I haven’t finished the series yet and still hope to, but want to reread the first two books first. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before could also work for Crimson Peaks for The Book Junkie Trials if I decide not to reread something else for that prompt.
Bonus/ Read 7 books!
If I complete all the books above, I will also fulfill the bonus challenge of reading seven books. Since I’ve picked mostly contemporary and short books, I believe this will be obtainable.
Are you participating in The Reading Rush? I’d love to see your TBR if you are. Feel free to add me as a friend as well!
