Ravenclaw TBR – August, 2019

51064637_230823194536734_7073384732158853120_nI’m so excited for August! I’m participating in a couple different Read-A-Thons that I am so excited for! I’m participating once again in Reading Rivalry on Team Eevee, and I’ll be doing the NEWTs challenge as well!

I’ll start with my Reading Rivalry criteria picks, and then I’ll go over my NEWTs picks! (If you can’t tell from my egregious use of exclamation points, I’m seriously excited about August!)

Reading Rivalry Criteria:
1. Author Highlight (Victoria/VE Schwab, JK Rowling, Holly Black) – Lucifer, Holly Black
2. Book You’ve Seen Someone Read/Mentioned in a TV Show, Movie, or Other Book – Carrie, Stephen King
3. Character With A Physical Disability – Clockwork Prince, Cassandra Clare
4. Containing a Prologue or Epilogue – Clockwork Angel, Cassandra Clare
5. Author Name Is Larger Than The Title – War Girls, Tochi Onyebuchi
6. Book Involving the Stage, Film, or TV Sets – Bright Burning Stars, A.K. Small
7. Book With Wings On The Cover – Clockwork Princess, Cassandra Clare
8. Author You Think Is Underrated – Sorcery of Thorns – Margaret Rogerson
9. Set Somewhere You’d Love To Travel – Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, Gail Honeyman
10. Book You’d Be Embarrassed To Read In Public – The Debt, Jackie Ashenden

For my NEWTs criteria, I was able to use all of the above books, but then I did add a couple more – fingers crossed I’m able to get to them all!

This readathon is really extensive, and I know I can’t even begin to explain it all in this blog post, so if you’re interested, I highly recommend checking out the video for it on Youtube by the Book Roast!

My profession for NEWTs is Hogwarts Professor, so for that one, I’ll need to achieve my O level in a subject I’d like to teach (I chose Potions), an E level in Defense Against The Dark Arts, and A level in two other subjects!

  • Potions
    • A – Friends Favorite Book
      • Sorcery of Thorns
    • E – Read a Book With A Cover in Your Hogwarts House Color (Ravenclaw)
      • War Girls
    • O – Book That Has a Prologue
      • Clockwork Princess
  • DADA
    • A – Book That’s Black Under The Dust Jacket
      • Clockwork Prince
    • E – First Book On Your TBR You Think Of
      • The Debt
  • Charms
    • A – Gorgeous Cover
      • Bright Burning Stars
    • E – A Comic, Graphic Novel, Manga, or Under 150 Pages
      • Lucifer
  • Astronomy
    • A – Moon On Cover or In Title
      • Spin The Dawn
  • Ancient Runes
    • A  – Book Recommended By a Friend
      • Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
  • History of Magic
    • A – Fantasy
      • Clockwork Angel
    • E – Includes a Map
      • The Merciful Crow
  • Muggle Studies
    • A – Cover That Includes an Actual Photo Element
      • Carrie
  • Transfiguration
    • A – LGBT Representation
      • Infinity Son

As you can see, the criteria for the two challenges worked really well together! I was also able to put several ARCs into my TBR!
1. War Girls
2. Bright Burning Stars
3. The Debt
4. Spin The Dawn
5. Infinity Son
6. The Merciful Crow

What all are you reading this month? Have you read anything on my TBR?

Happy Reading!
